The Museum of Contemporary Art developed a long term building program, led by M. Goodwin Associates in 1988–90. We worked with Trustees and staff to produce a balanced business plan and building space need document and conducted the site selection and site acquisition program. The site of the new building was originally the site of the National Guard Armory. A three-way swap allowed the National Guard to move to a third site, originally owned by the Donnelley Corporation, while the State of Illinois acquired the old Armory and the Museum of Contemporary Art acquired the Armory building site from the state. We developed a site use concept with Larry Booth, Architect. Later, when a new Director was retained, an alternate building program was developed and implemented.
