The Blanton Museum of Art is a new art museum complex on the campus of the University of Texas, Austin. It unites all of the museum’s collections, exhibitions and programs into one site at the main entry to the UT campus. The $83.5 million, 180,000 GSF complex comprises the 124,000 GSF Mari and James A. Michener Gallery Building (2006) and the adjacent 56,000 GSF Edgar A. Smith Building which will open in 2007 featuring a cafe, museum shop, classrooms, auditorium and offices. The two buildings face a 145,000 GSF public plaza landscaped by Peter Walker & Partners. M. Goodwin Associates, Inc. worked from 1997 to 1998 to prepare a full building program, and to assist the museum and the UT facilities leadership in the site selection process. Our work detailed all of the museum’s site and space needs in a single document, which was used by the architects throughout the design process. |
