The Berlinische Galerie’s extensive collections include one of the world’s pre-eminent archives of early 20th century modernism and the avant garde. The State of Berlin-owned Galerie had previously been located in a suite of small buildings. MGA worked with the Galerie staff to define a future program of priorities and space needs for a long-awaited move to a group of newly renovated and constructed buildings. The Galerie’s spaces include public special events areas, permanent collection and changing exhibit galleries, archives, meeting areas, offices and storage, community-oriented education spaces, and research and processing areas. The new buildings opened in 2004.
